Area of Interest
Area of Interest (AOI) refers to a specific geographic region selected for observation, analysis, mapping, or data collection. In GIS, remote sensing, and surveying applications, an AOI defines the spatial extent within which data is gathered, processed, and analyzed. By focusing on a designated area, users can efficiently manage resources and reduce the amount of unnecessary data processing.

An AOI can be represented as a point, line, polygon, or custom boundary depending on the project requirements. It is commonly used in applications such as satellite imagery analysis, environmental monitoring, urban planning, disaster management, and drone surveys. Defining an AOI helps ensure that data acquisition and analysis are targeted toward the area relevant to the study or operational objective.
