Cell Size

Cell size refers to the physical dimensions of a raster pixel on the Earth's surface and is a key factor in determining the detail represented by a GIS dataset. Each cell stores a value that describes a specific location or geographic property, such as elevation, temperature, land cover, or spectral reflectance. A smaller cell size provides greater spatial detail and can capture smaller geographic features, while a larger cell size provides a generalized representation of the landscape. Cell size is closely related to raster resolution and can affect data accuracy, storage requirements, processing speed, and the results of spatial analysis.
