InSAR

InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a sophisticated remote sensing technique based on phase comparison between several Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images to find out and measure changes that occur on the surface of the Earth. By comparing signals from radar images taken at various times, InSAR is able to identify changes in the surface of the planet such as ground deformation, surface displacement and elevation change with great accuracy. It is used in geospatial analysis, satellite observation, geology, engineering, natural hazards monitoring and in environmental applications. The applications of InSAR include finding out land subsidence, earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes activity, glacier movement, and structural deformations. As SAR can gather data irrespective of weather conditions, in any time of day and under any kind of clouds, InSAR offers stable monitoring over vast territories.

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is an advanced satellite remote sensing technique for the measurement of ground displacement, terrain elevation, and deformation of surfaces. This approach is based on the comparison of the phase information derived from SAR images collected on the same site at different times. This allows for the recognition of very slight deformations of the Earth's surface, which would be impossible to detect by using optical imaging. InSAR is popular in applications such as land subsidence assessment, seismic analysis, landslide identification, volcano studies, glacier and ice motion, mining, infrastructure management, and geological studies. The InSAR technology offers precise and broad-spectrum monitoring without the need to physically visit the monitored site. Since SAR devices can collect data both in daytime and nighttime, and even under cloudy weather conditions, InSAR has become a valuable tool for Earth observation and deformation analysis.
